CHJ’s Grade 10 outsmart College Pol Sci Debaters

Six Grade 10 young ladies won the 1st PRC-Iloilo Chapter and CHR VI International Humanitarian Law Interschool Debate held at the PRC-Iloilo City building last August 17, 2017.

The CHJ debating team was composed by Kaith Lawrence Espinosa (Beneficiality), Pia Dorothy Tia (Necessity), and Grace Angela Bedia (Practicability) of the Negative Side. The researchers were Larenz Guillen, Audrey Belle Sombero, and Chloe Ann Dulos. Though they did not get the Best Speaker and Best Debater awards, they won the debate as a team against the Political Science college students of West Visayas State University in Iloilo City.

The interschool debate was sponsored by the Philippine National Red Cross-Iloilo Chapter, in partnership with the Commission on Human Rights Region VI, during the celebration of the International Humanitarian Law Day with the theme “Pagsulong ng International Humanitarian Law, Pananagutan ng Lahat”.

The activity was facilitated by Iana Frances Gatpatan, IHL Disseminator, Joji Esper Marmolejo, RN, Health Service Focal Staff-IHL, Gilbert Paul Valderrama, PRC Chapter Administrator, and Ramon Cua Locsin, Chairman, Iloilo Board of Directors. The CHJ debating team was coached by Ms. Ma. Reylan Garcia, RN, a be-medalled alumna of our school. They were also assisted by Ms. Arzel Joy Gervacio and Mrs. Elsie Palomar.

There were eight participating schools and CHJ will go to the next level. Congratulations to the debating team. That is Tatak Hijas”!
