It is where we hone our talents and skills and build our dreams so that in time, we can share with others the best in us. CHJ Students Plant 180 Trees to Combat Climate Change
Ninety-one Grade 9 students of Colegio de las Hijas de Jesus, Inc. conducted a tree planting activity at Linobayan, Tigbauan, Iloilo last January 8, 2020.
The activity which aims to help combat climate change in a small act started with a short orientation about seedling transfer from pot to soil discussed by Mr. Elmer Torrico, director of Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Tigbauan.
According to Mr. Torrico, he was glad that the students participated in this tree planting activity because it’s a way of helping them in their goal to rehabilitate the dumpsite into a once natural environment and a vermi-composing facility.
“I am really glad that we are given an opportunity to participate in this nature-changing activity. I hope that we will do more of this in other venues for the next years,” Ralph Daniel Yap, Grade 9 student, added.
The said activity was part of the performance task in Science of the Grade 9 students and also in connection to the Social Apostolate Program of the school.
Analytikus club gives Christmas gifts to IP’s
As an annual outreach program, the Analytikus Club, headed by Ms. Lea C. Cababasay, organized a gift-giving activity for the indigenous people (IP’s) of Brgy, Lanit, Jaro, Iloilo City last December 16, 2019.
The activity started with a prayer led by Elora Margareth Cabag, followed by the opening remarks given by Gloryvill Falsis, who were both tenured members of the said club. Afterward, games were held for the children and were facilitated by the club.
To encourage sanitation and proper hygiene to school-aged children, some club members demonstrated the proper method of brushing one’s teeth and washing one’s hands.
After the demonstration, the IP’s, together with the club and some faculty members, shared snacks to the recipients. Gifts, including school bags for children, rice, clothes, and other health supplies, were also given.
“I felt happy that I got to share my blessings with others and I made them happy through simple things during Christmas season,” said Dayne Clarisse Giner, a club member.
The club plans to continue the said activity in its succeeding years.

Cala-or, Tolentino placed 2nd in
ILOPRISAA Dance Sports tilt
Jayson Gian Cala-or and Mikaella Joneth Tolentino maneuvered Dance Sports after placing 2nd in the 53rd ILOPRISAA Dance Sports competition held at the University of San Agustin Gymnasium, Iloilo City last November 19, 2019.
Cala-or, Grade 8- Fortitude, and Tolentino, Grade 12- STEM, performed in the Grade C category, which consists of Cha-Cha, Rumba, and Jive.
“As an Hija, the effort to represent my school is already both an honor and achievement for me. Not only was I able to give pride to my school, but I was also able to show other people how I was formed in CHJ with a confident and humble heart,” said Tolentino.
She added that she realized it was not merely about winning, but also about the passion and dedication that they nurtured throughout the preparation for the event and competition.
“Our previous experience in other dance contests, such as the Kansilay Dance Sports Competition 2019 and Ronnie Steve Vergara Open Ballroom Competition 2019, definitely aided us in our win. Truly, our hard work and persistence paid off in the end,” said Cala-or.
He added that their coach, Mr. John Noel Espinosa, and their trainer, Mr. Vince Oller, were instrumental in their success and inspired them to work hard in the entire competition.
The duo shall proceed to the Regionals in Filamer Christian University, Roxas, Capiz on Feburary 4, 2020. The duo also plans to join in other dance contests in the future.
